Ever see the movie Young Guns II?

Emilio Esteviz lights up the movie screen when the judge orders him, “DEAD DEAD DEAD”… A young roughrider cowboy responds with “Judge, you can go to HELL HELL HELL.”

This is the exact analogy which is taking place in the tax wars between Amazon.com and the State of Colorado.

Here’s a quick rundown on a report from LewRockwell.com:

Amazon.com “Fires” Everyone in Colorado

Posted by Manuel Lora on March 9, 2010 09:54 AM

In order to avoid having to pay CO sales taxes, Amazon.com is eliminating its affiliate program, effectively ending all formal connections to the state:

The law says online retailers have to start collecting state sales tax themselves or send annual notices to customers telling them to pay the tax.

The Colorado Retail Council reiterated support for the bill on Monday, stressing the new law is not a new tax.

“Every Coloradan who buys an item from an online merchant like Amazon.com already, under current law, owes the tax on that item,” Colorado Retail Council President Christopher Howes stated in a release. “Our Colorado Retail Council members collect the sales tax for the government and firmly believe that Internet retailers should too. The General Assembly set these tax laws long ago – we are just playing by the rules. It’s a matter of fairness.”

Gotta love the “fairness” part. Yep, taxes are fair! Who knew! (No offense, the so-called “‘Fair’ Tax.”)

Amazon.com, rather than deal with more government fees and taxes, basically declares tax war on Colorado.

Personally, I think this is FANTASTIC. Get the governments filthy hands out of Amazon’s cookie jar!

Because of this, AMAZON.COM can count on me to shop from them EVEN MORE!

Whether AMAZON wants to or not, Amazon.com (Nasdaq: AMZN) has been forced into playing a political game.

The online retailer sent out notices to its thousands of affiliate marketers in Colorado, informing them that it was discontinuing the commission-generating program for residents of the state.

What is Colorado thinking?!?

Amazon has no choice but to move forward with its discontinuation. If Colorado imposes these fees and taxes, other states will do so as well. Amazon’s margins will be lost, and pretty soon, they’re will be a possibility of Amazon going bankrupt because of it.

I’ve never been more proud to be a loyal customer of Amazon.com than I am now!

Amazon…. keep sending the message. All those dirty bureaucrats and tax thieves can do exactly what Emilio Esteviz says, “You can go to HELL HELL HELL!”
